I’ve read a lot of books by Gilbert Morris. He always has interesting characters with unique situations. When I picked up Charade at the library I thought that it would be a good read similar to other books by Morris. It was and it wasn’t. One difference from the other books by the author was that it was contemporary. Most of what I’ve read by Gilbert Morris has been historical fiction. Another difference would be the subjects of obesity and revenge. While revenge is not a new topic, obesity is definitely a unique topic. Most authors create pretty perfect individuals and give them a small flaw or two. It was refreshing to see a character struggling with major life issues.

Overall I really enjoyed the book. It was more than just a fluffy romance novel. Actually, although there was a little bit, I don’t think I would categorize this book in the romance category. It is contemporary fiction. This book was an easy read and made a nice break from school reading and all the nonfiction I have been reading. Whatever happened to reading for the pure joy of reading?
